Digital Foundry compares howCall of Duty 2runs on Xbox One versus how the game performs on Xbox 360, discovering vast improvements for the Xbox One version of the game.

One of the reasons why Microsoft’s plan to makeXbox One backward compatible with Xbox 360 gameswas met with such enthusiasm is because of the potential for 360 games to run better on the newer hardware. Now, not all Xbox 360 games run better on Xbox One, but some have seen performance boosts, and so is the case withCall of Duty 2.

Call of Duty 2, which was added to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup just recently, enjoys a steadier frame rate when played on the newer system. Whereas the game’s busier gameplay sections and cut-scenes drop to 30 frames per second when played on Xbox 360,Call of Duty 2on Xbox One is able to consistently maintain 60 frames per second, with frame rate drops much less frequent.

This performance boost makes Xbox One the best way to playCall of Duty 2, and it will be interesting to see if more gamers will look into the game as a result. After all,Call of Duty: Black Opssales spikedonce that game was added to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup, so there’s a possibility that the same could happen forCall of Duty 2.

Other games that have joined the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup have experienced similar sales spikes, likeRed Dead Redemption, for example. This was probably due to hype surrounding the sequel that is rumored to be in development, as well as the fact thatRed Dead Redemptionperforms better on Xbox Onethan it does on Xbox 360, just likeCall of Duty 2.

If Xbox 360 titles continue to have sales boosts after being added to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup, then we may see more blockbuster games likeRed Dead RedemptionandCall of Dutycome to the service at a faster rate. Of course, some games will probably never make it to backward compatibility, especially if the publisher has a remaster to sell, so that means gamers wanting the completeCall of Dutycollection on Xbox One will probably have to purchase theCall of Duty 4remasterthis fall.

Regardless of what games come to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup in the future, there are plenty of great games on the service now for players to relive, likeCall of Duty 2.Call of Duty 2’s improved performance on Xbox One should give gamers even more reason to check it out, but it’s worth playing anyway, as it is generally considered one of thebest World War II gamesproduced to date.

Call of Duty 2is playable now on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
