During a virtual town hall that took place on February 13, Microsoft Gaming CEO and Xbox brand head Phil Spencer revealed to employees that a newCall of Dutygame should come out in October 2024, the media outletInversereported, citing multiple unnamed sources who were present at the meeting. Past reports suggested that2024’sCall of Dutyentry will be set in the Gulf Warand focus mostly on the CIA’s involvement in the conflict.
Reported Release Date of 2024’s Call of Duty Game
Treyarch, which introduced the franchise’s popular Zombies mode in its 2008 release,Call of Duty: World at War, is expected to spearhead the series' next title. The studio’s last mainline entry was 2020’sCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a game that received generally positive reviews. Should it develop the next title in the franchise, Treyarch has the opportunity to address fans’issues with recentCall of DutyZombies experiencesin the next game, including their lack of consistency with seasonal content.
Regardless of each game’s perceived quality, every mainlineCall of Dutytitle has managed to become a commercial hit. Even last year’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3was, at least in the United States, one of the best-selling games of 2023 despite failing to impress both critics and fans alike. The latest installment’s single-player campaign, in particular, was called out for being too short and rushed. While the franchise is mostly known for its competitive multiplayer segments,Call of Dutyalso has some incredible single-player campaigns.
In addition to revealing the release window for 2024’sCall of Dutygame, Spencer also told employees that Xbox would have more hardware in the future. Previous rumors indicated thatMicrosoft could release a new Xbox console in 2026, though it was unclear if this was supposed to be an update to the current Series X/S line or a new system altogether. Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty are expected to discuss the brand’s future on the Official Xbox Podcast on February 15.
