Call of Duty Modern Warfare’sGunfight game modelocks every player in place for about 12 seconds at the start of every round. The timer makes sure that everyone starts the fight completely prepared and at the exact same time.

So then it could be considered game-breaking when an opponent suddenly has the ability to ignore the timer entirely and move around the map uninhibited while everyone else remains locked in place. And this is the exact situation that Reddit user Knestleknox found themselves in while participating in the finals of a recent2v2 Gunfight tournament.

While playing on theDocks mapand waiting for the round to start, Knox witnessed his opponent moving from their starting place up to the nearby window in the warehouse that overlooks their starting position. As the timer ticked down from the three-second mark, Knox’s opponent started shooting him. Of course, the bullets dealt no damage because the round hadn’t started yet, but that wasn’t the point. The point was to make sure that once the timer hit zero and the fight started, Knox would be riddled with bullets and killed before having the chance to get out the way, which is exactly what happened. Knox’s partner was killed shortly afterward, having faced a 2v2 situation where one of the opponents already had the advantage.

According to some comments on Knox’s post, this bug has existed since Gunfight’s inclusion intoCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. It tends to happen one round per match, with some players taking advantage of it while others take the high road and ignore it. However, it would seem the bug has evolved into a full-on exploit since then, as according to Knox, his opponent did every single round and ended up stealing the victory from him and his team member.

It’s unclear if the bug is specific to certainGunfight variantslike the new Gunfight 3v3 - Snipers Only. Regardless, though, it’s bizarre that Infinity hasn’t addressed the glitch yet if it’s really been around sinceModern Warfareintroduced the game mode. But if more individuals figure out a way to use it consistently, the developers won’t have much of a choice but to act on it. It’s also possible Knox’s post will be enough to drawInfinity Ward’s attention, but as of this writing, the developers haven’t commented on it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
