Like with the last two entries in the series,Call of Duty: Warzonewill be used to continue the story ofCall of Duty: Vanguard. While details were previously limited on what theCall of Duty: Warzonestory would be like, a new cutscene sets the stage for the conflict.
InCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s post-launch story, there were a few exciting reveals for fans to witness. First, the additional cutscenes confirmed that Alex survived the explosion at the end ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign, with the character given a prosthetic leg so that he could keep fighting. Secondly, after defeating Zakhaev, none other than Soap MacTavish helped Price defuse a bomb, letting fans hear his voice before his proper debut in the eventual sequel.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s post-launch storyintroduced Stitch and focused on his war with Adler, which proved very interesting.

With the previous twoCall of Duty: Warzonestories having major impacts on campaign characters, it will be interesting to see ifCall of Duty: Vanguard’s cast will play a big role going forward. Regardless, the Season 1 cutscene is an interesting one, as it shows fans somenew Operatorsand confirms why they are fighting. At the start of the scene, Butcher is seen piloting the plane before it gets hit. Taskforce Trident then leaps out of the plane, carrying out the mission while Butcher flies to safety.
Taskforce Trident is made up of three entirely new Operators, which leaked about a week ago. They land inthe new Caldera map, completing the mission before going on to rescue Butcher. Their plane is completely totaled, however, so Trident is basically stuck onCall of Duty: Warzone’s map. While on the beach where he crashed, Carver stumbles upon a bunker hidden in the sand. As he warns that “the world will never be ready” for his findings, he descends the ladder and closes the lid.
With the Iron Cross on top of the bunker lid, and Butcher mentioning that the mission was to findNazi secrets, it can only be assumed that the Nazis have some terrible plan to destroy the world. What that plan is remains to be seen, but based on the previous storytelling formats, players could see an intro and outro cutscene every single Season - all of which expand on the narrative. Seasonal events will likely happen every few Seasons as well, with the objectives likely tying into what is happening in the ongoing plot.
With the previous stories satisfyingCall of Duty: Warzonefans, hopefully theCall of Duty: Vanguardarc does the same. Season 1 begins on December 8, so players will be exploring Caldera for some intel sooner rather than later.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
