Some may argue that the video game industry is in an era of remakes, reboots, and remasters. While that’s not entirely untrue, there is something to be said about unearthing old-school titles, brushing off their dust, and shining them up for release on a modern console, just like developer Vicarious Visions and publisher Activision are doing withCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Nostalgia and good gaming feels are a guarantee in the upcoming bundle, but how do the gameplay, the graphics, the mechanics, and even the soundtrack hold up in a remaster? That’s what YouTube user CrystalFissure explores in a video that compares theCrash Bandicoot"Road Crash" map on PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 4.
The comparison clip places footage of theCrash 3level “Road Crash” as seen inCrash Bandicoot: Warpedfor PS1 and inCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogyfor PS4 directly next to one another. Notable differences in terms of visuals are a brighter, crisper look overall in the PS4 version. The updated graphics also change the font next to the fruit counter, as well as the checkered box in the corner that tells players where they stand in the race.
CrystalFissure himself commented on the side-by-side comparison, noting that theN. Sane Trilogyedition touts some incredibly clean graphics and retains that classicCrash Bandicootfun. “Much like Orange Asphalt, I absolutely adore the way this level looks. Great lighting, detail, and environment. Cannot wait to play it,” he said in the video’s description. Stack that statement atop the footage that speaks for itself, and it appears Vicarious Visions and Activision are proving just how great amodernCrash Bandicootgamecan be.
Players previously saw a sneak peek of the"Upstream" levelincluded inCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. From the inaugural entry of theCrashseries, “Upstream” features plenty of river obstacles, thick foliage, and lush landscapes. Those who got their hands on the title before its release seem seriously impressed by the graphics in the new-and-improved level, giving kudos to the time and effort Vicarious Visions put into the updated design.
There’s a ton riding on the success ofCrash Bandicoot:N. Sane Trilogy. Publisher Activision may very well view the response to the remaster as the marker of what it will do withfuture games in the franchise. It’s difficult to foresee just how well the game will perform commercially and critically so far ahead of its launch, but it’s undeniable that theCrashfranchise is gearing up to crash onto the modern market in a big way.
