The quest director forCyberpunk 2077has recently spoken out about how they feel about the renewed interest in the game in a rather emotional speech. With theCyberpunk 2077 EdgerunnersDLC and accompanying anime launchingrecently, there’s been a resurgence in people playing CD Projekt Red’s dystopian RPG. The player count has spiked, showing that people are willing to give the game a try, perhaps even a replay, after the controversial launch in 2020 left many thinking that the initial release was too broken.

Things have been looking up for the game and its developer. Recently,Cyberpunk 2077passedThe Witcher 3in terms of concurrent players on Steamand is currently the third most-played single-player game on the platform, just behindGrand Theft Auto 5andLost Ark. While some may still be holding back after the backlash from the game’s launch almost two years ago, the studio has been hard at work patching out some of the most game-breaking glitches, and the recent updates have evidently proven popular, helping to repair the game’s reputation.

Quest Director Paweł Sasko of CDPR took to Twitch recently to enunciate how they felt about the resurgence ofCyberpunk 2077. In a clip posted to Reddit, Sasko, while fighting back tears, talks about the “heart and soul” that went into the game’s development, adding that it’s been almost eight years of work for some people on the team. They go on to add that it feels “unreal” that people are now starting to enjoy and appreciate the game, saying that it’s “good to be back.” The clip ends with Sasko commenting on the track that’s playing in the background, which further adds to the emotive aspect of the speech.

Paweł Sasko becamequest director forCyberpunk 2077last year, almost one year after the game came out. Their previous experience working as lead quest designer forThe Witcher 3andCyberpunk 2077signalled them as an industry professional.

Despite going down asone of the most disastrous video game launchesin recent memory, CDPR has managed to turn things around, puttingCyberpunk 2077into a much better state than it was in December 2020. This clip of Sasko shows that the people behind the game’s development have been impacted as much as the fan base, almost certainly more in fact. It also shows that, with a lot of effort, the narrative can change, and it’s nice to see those responsible for the game are finally getting positive recognition.

Cyberpunk 2077is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
