Summary
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguestill has moreDCcontent planned for its future, despite the game’s critical and financial floundering. Part of this upcoming content—aDCcharacter who’s been leaked for a while now—is in desperate need of his own game, and there’s no better time to seize the opportunity.
According toa leak fromSuicide Squad’s code, Deathstrokeis very likely to be a playable character in the game’s upcoming seasons - something that has been all-but-confirmed thanks to official Season 4 artwork and in-game references. The super-soldier assassin is beloved by DC fans, even if he lacks the name recognition of other rogues. An extremely capable mercenary who’s antagonized many a hero (most notably the Teen Titans) has already featured in the Arkhamverse before, starring inArkham OriginsandArkham Knight. He was also seen in the mobile gameArkham City: Lockdown.

Warner Bros. Has The Perfect Window To Make A Deathstroke Game
While Slade Wilson may not be as popular as Marvel’s similarly-named bicolor mercenary, he’s still a big name. Not only has he featured in many videogames, he was the main antagonist in Cartoon Network’s classicTeen Titansshow and a villain in last year’sMy Adventures with Superman. He even had a brief cameoin 2017’sJustice League, though the DCEU’s death spiral led to this going nowhere. Hyped up by fans for his brains, brawn, capability, and striking appearance, Deathstroke ought to have his own top-billing slot in today’s superhero game landscape.
Superhero games are undergoing something of a renaissance, thanks in large part toInsomniac’sSpider-Manseries. Now many other big superhero titles are on the horizon, including Insomniac’sWolverine, Arkane’sBlade, Monolith’sWonder Woman, and EA’sIron Man. Deathstroke would easily fit into a similar equation, with a moveset that could derive right from theArkhamgames. His line of work as a mercenary also fits a mission-based structure, which could take advantage of the open world map some of these games have sported or plan to sport.
On the subject of an open world,Deathstroke’s appearance inSuicide Squad’s future seasons could also produce insight for a Deathstroke game. Provided thatSuicide Squadsurvives long enough for the character to join the fray, his movement and attacks could create the foundation for a solo outing. While there’s no certainty that a Deathstroke game would shareSuicide Squad’s concentration on movement, the responsive and character-focused controls the latter has been praised for would be great to see translated into the former.
A Deathstroke Game Could Let DC Grow Out Of The Arkhamverse
Rocksteady’sArkhamseries is hugely beloved, butSuicide Squadmay have turned it into scorched earth. Not only does it make dramatic changes to the canon (killing off the Justice League in the same game they’re introduced), the way it’s handled characters like Batman has caused uproar from fans.Arkhamfans are largely in opposition to the movesSuicide Squadhas made in the universe, so it’s likely better to just move on. In addition, a new canon for DC games has the potential to do new and daring things, a possibility every iteration of the universe has had.
Going Singleplayer Could Redeem Warner’s Game Output
Warner Bros. are making moves towards live-service gaming, butSuicide Squad’s woeshave already made this direction difficult. It’s clear that superhero fans prefer solo games likeSpider-Man 2and theArkhamseries as opposed to live-services likeMarvel AvengersandSuicide Squad. That’s not to say the latter games don’t have a place, but it is to say that Warner’s game output needs something that truly rekindles the success of theArkhamseries—and Deathstroke is a character that provides ample opportunity for a solid singleplayer experience.
