Co-op shooterDeep Rock Galactichas become a surprise success for many in the gaming industry. Allowing players to become dwarves mining deep space caves and battling bugs, the mining gameproved to be incredibly popular, beginning with just a few players as it launched on early access in 2018, to havemillions ofDeep Rock Galacticplayersin late 2021.
Many games have brought updates, items and cosmetics as part of the Lunar New Year in 2022.Steam as usual had a large salecelebrating the event, andDeep Rock Galactichas given players customization options for their dwarves as part of the Lunar New Year. One of these customization options has players wearing a hat that they’ve found very similar to the hat worn byMortal Kombatcharacter Raiden.

Raiden, being the thunder god of theMortal Kombatuniverse, caused someDeep Rock Galacticfans to imagine their dwarves as inheriting Raiden’s powers, leading to the creation of some hilarious images posted in the online community of the game.Deep Rock Galacticcharacterscan be seen wielding lightning, and one fan even put extra effort into their meme, showing their dwarf as a selectable character inMortal Kombat 11.
Mortal Kombatis a franchise that’s no stranger to crossovers. In each modernMortal Kombatgame, guest characters from other Warner Bros properties such as the Joker andSpawnhave made appearances. It seems doubtful though that a dwarf fromDeep Rock Galacticwill be making the jump to the fighting game. However, with the selection of weapons available inDeep Rock Galactic, it’s possible that a dwarf from that game could wreak some major havoc in theMortal Kombatuniverse.
While its incredibly unlikelyDeep Rock Galacticwill officially cross over with theMortal Kombatuniverse, there are other games that fans could see being a great match withDeep Rock Galactic.Considering the game’s focus on mining and exploring caves, many quickly made the link betweenDeep Rock GalacticandMinecraft. Fans pointed out that the pickaxe fromDeep Rock Galacticcould make its way intoMinecraft, or perhaps the weapons and tools from the latter could feature in the former.
While crossovers are interesting to speculate,Deep Rock Galacticis still a relatively new game, officially launching in 2020, and so it still has a few things to work out.The Space Rig hub area, for example has been outlined byDeep Rock Galacticplayers as something that could be improved in the game.
