Earlier this month Sony announced that PSN users would be able to change their PSN ID names in the near future, but then went on to say a few days ago that doing so carries with it somepossible negative side effectsincluding losing access to DLC, content, saved games, and more. In light of this information, players are clearly concerned about losing progress they have made and content that they have paid for. But when it comes to how this will specifically affect players ofDestiny 2, developer Bungie says players changing their PSN names should not experience negative effects.

Bungie community manager, Dylan Gafner (who goes by dmg04 online), took to theDestinysubreddit to provide fans with an outlook on how this feature that has been requested of Sony for years could affect players inDestiny 2. Gafner said the developer is testing the name change and how it will affect the game, and while Bungie can’t guarantee anything completely until Sony’s name change system is fully in place, it’s looking likeDestiny 2players will not be negatively affected by any of the issues mentioned by Sony.

Gafner said that even includeslegacy information and contentthat carried over fromDestiny 1such as emblems. He did say that the test team at Bungie will continue to look into issues that may arise from PSN’s name change, saying that there may be some “edge-case scenarios” that could occur in regards to playingDestiny 1, but thatDestiny 2is expected to be in the clear.

Gafner did say that while Bungie does not expect widespread issues inDestiny 2caused by the PSN name change feature, if problems do arise they are expected to minor and should not be frequent or severe:

“Potential issues may range from issues signing in to characters, failing to join friends, or various error codes in gameplay. Bungie.net may only have some oddities when attempting to search for player accounts or interacting with old PGCR data, but we need to test around this as well.”

Sony is currently testing a beta ofthe PSN name change feature, which the company said will roll out in early 2019 for all users.
