A new mode coming inDestiny 2’s Shadowkeep expansion known as Nightmare Hunt was teased at Gamescom during the Inside Xbox event. While very few details are known about Nightmare Hunt, which may bethe unannounced mode Bungie teasedlast week, a lot of info can be garnered from the short bit of screentime the mode got in the background footage shown.

Nightmare Hunt is an activity located on the Moon, the new destination coming toDestiny 2in Shadowkeep. It is a three-player activity that will feature multiple difficulty settings: Adept, Hero, and Legend. Each difficulty mode adds a number of modifiers. At least in this pre-release build of the expansion, Adept has one modifier, Hero has four, and Legend has six, including locked loadouts. As expected, each difficulty tier also has increasing difficulty with Adept being set at 860, Hero at 920, and Legend at the 950 level cap.

Nightmare Hunt is a matchmade activity in Adept and Hero, but matchmaking is turned off for Legend. That setup is not surprising and follows how the game handled the currentSeason of Opulence’s Menagerie, with its Normal difficulty being matchmade and the Heroic version requiring teams to have their own fireteam before launching into the activity.

It appears that there may be different Nightmare Hunt versions with the one shown having the subtitle “Survitude.” It is assumed that Nightmare Hunt will be a new mode where players will take on oldDestinybosses that have been resurrected by the Hive on the Moon in Shadowkeep.Trailers for Shadowkeep have revealed some of these bossesto include Crota fromDestiny 1’s Crota’s End raid, Omnigul fromDestiny 1’s Will of Crota strike, Skolas from the original Prison of Elders also fromDestiny 1,and Ghaul from the vanillaDestiny 2campaign.
