The world ofElden Ringis as dark and deadly as any fan of theDark Soulsfranchise would expect. With punishing combat and grueling boss fights, the world created by both FromSoftware andfantasy author George R.R. Martinis difficult to navigate according to the game’s lore and the gameplay it provides. It’s somewhat surprising then, that so many players have ditched the dark and gritty atmosphere provided byElden Ring’sworld, using the character creator to make some jovial and funny Tarnished.
From a player doing their best to makehandsome Shrek inElden Ring, to another creatingDoctor Strange’sBenedict Cumberbatch, players have been able to use the improved character creation system to their advantage. Rarely do players of FromSoftware games attempt to make serious characters that reflect the game’s setting, as every RPG game from the studio save forSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceallowed for players to create strange and hilarious characters to roam around the world.

Often, players of FromSoftware RPGs see their silly characters as the perfect juxtaposition to the game’s serious world. Recently, one player has sought to create a crossover betweenElden Ringand popular cartoon seriesAdventure Time, by creating the Ice King from the latter in-game. The Ice King is first introduced as a minor villain inAdventure Time, though he quickly evolves to be a beloved character within the series. For many fans, the Ice King has one of the most interesting and heartbreaking backstories in the series, and has many details onlydie hard fans ofAdventure Timemay notice.
TheElden Ringplayer who created the Ice King posted their character to Reddit, to the praise of many fans of both FromSoftware games andAdventure Time. A few comments were disappointed that penguin ashes weren’t available in the game, meaning that the Ice King couldn’t summon his famous penguin allies to his side in combat. Another comment hoped that the player was going for a full frost damage build to match the overall theme of the Ice King.
This isn’t the first timeAdventure Timehas crossed over into the gaming world. As the show often has episodes centered around the sentient videogame console B.M.O, and features videogame references often, it’s of little surprise thatgames likeImmortals: Fenyx RisingandAnimal Crossinghave featuredAdventure Timecrossovers. Either in official crossovers of unofficial fan creations,Adventure Timehas featured in multiple gaming settings, though the world ofElden Ringmay make for the oddest crossover yet.
Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
