A fan of Bethesda’sElder Scrollsfranchise has come to the grim realization that, at the pace Bethesda is currently going, they won’t be alive to see many more of the franchise’s main series games. Bethesda’sElder Scrollsgames are absolutely massive undertakings and some of the biggest open world games on the market, and so it’s no surprise fans have to wait a significant amount of time between entries. Unfortunately, the waits have been getting even longer.

There were two years between the originalElder Scrollsgame andDaggerfall, and six years betweenDaggerfallandMorrowind. Whereas the firstElder Scrollsgame took place across the entire continent of Tamriel andDaggerfallwas set in High Rock and Hammerfell, Bethesda started focusing on a single province beginning withThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionreleased four years afterMorrowindandlet fans explore Cyrodiil, whileSkyrimdropped five years after that, in 2011.

No new main seriesElder Scrollsgame has released sinceSkyrim’s launch in 2011. While it’s been claimed by some thatThe Elder Scrolls 6could release in 2026, more realistic estimates suggest that the game is over five years away from launch, meaning most won’t get to play until 2028. As pointed out by TikTok user Noobie Nooberson, this means thatElder Scrollsfans may not get to play many more games in the beloved franchise.

Let’s say someone was 20 whenSkyrimcame out and for the sake of argument let’s go with the extremely optimistic prediction thatElder Scrolls 6will drop in 2026. If Bethesda takes 15 years with each subsequentElder Scrollsgame, one likely only has four moreElder Scrollsgamesto look forward to in their lifetime. Unless Bethesda significantly ramps up the pace at which it releasesElder Scrollstitles, that means most fans won’t get to experience the franchise’s provinces in a proper single-player adventure outside the way they were presented in the first game all the way back in 1994.

Rumor has it thatThe Elder Scrolls 6is set in Hammerfell or High Rock, which means it’s covering ground that’s already been covered byThe Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall. Black Marsh, Elsweyr, the Summerset Isles, and Valenwood will all still need individual games, but sadly it seems the vast majority ofElder Scrollsfans alive today won’t live to see all these Tamriel provinces get theMorrowind,Oblivion/Cyrodiil, andSkyrimtreatment.

While it’s not quite the same, it is worth pointing out thatThe Elder Scrolls Onlinefeatures the provincesthat have yet to get their own dedicated, single-player games, and so fans can still explore them in some capacity at least.
