Square Enix continues to solidifyFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeas a true re-imagining rather than just a remake. Since the first episode plans to expand upon the original game’s Midgar story, there’ll be plenty of new material to explore. As evidenced by the most recent info drop, players will be meeting plenty of new characters outside of the main cast during the game.

As the release ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakedraws near, trailers and screenshots have been revealing several new characters coming to the game’s supporting cast. Each character shown so far has either been a revamped side character or someone entirely new to the game. Here’s all of the confirmed new characters coming to the remake.

ff7 remake roche

Roche

Of all the new characters revealed so far, Roche has seen the most screen time in trailers forFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.Confirmed from an early blog post by Square Enix, Roche is a SOLDIER third classwho has some kind of vague past experience with Cloud. He’s a brash, arrogant soldier who’s acquired the nickname “Speed Demon” for his affection of motorcycles, speed, and general disregard for personal safety and the safety of his fellow Shinra comrades. Many Shinra organization members have “ostracized” Roche for his unpredictable and dangerous behavior. He drives an emblematic red motorcycle and resembles some kind of renegade looking to get even.

Roche has it out for Cloud for reasons unknown for now, but from what he saysin theFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketheme song trailer, the two had a not-so-friendly encounter in the past. With Midgar being the main focus for the first episode ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, we’ll likely be seeing plenty of Roche as some kind of recurring boss throughout the game. What’s interesting about Roche is he’s SOLDIER third class, a lower rank from Cloud and Sephiroth’s first class rank. Since Shinra’s SOLDIER program was mostly shrouded in mystery in the original game, Roche and Cloud may share some backstory or context on how they met in the SOLDIER program.

final fantasy 7 remake andrea rhodea honeybee inn new character

Andrea Rhodea

As Cloud and the gang attempt to rescue Tifa from Don Corneo, Aerith and Cloud devise a plan to disguise themselves as call girls to infiltrate Don Corneo’s estate. The two of them need to audition to gain access to Corneo’s estate, which is where Andrea Rhodea comes in. As the owner and performer of the Honeybee Inn, Andrea is the influential point of contact in gaining access to Don Corneo’s mansion. Andrea’s job is to search for potential girls for Corneo that exemplify “true beauty” and “perfection.” Andrea will play a pivotal rolein Cloud’s cross-dressing sceneand preparing Aerith and Cloud for their meeting with Don Corneo.

Leslie Kyle

Based off of an enemy type in the originalFinal Fantasy 7called “Corneo’s lackey,” Leslie Kyle is essentially one of Corneo’s henchman. One of the many characters Cloud will interact with in Wall Market, Leslie Kyle is known to assist Corneo in ruling over the Wall Market district. Leslie is a very stoic and serious young individual with a lot of respect from Corneo’s other henchman. He’s a young body with an old soul, specifically referred to by Square Enix as a “curmudgeon.” Leslie likely takes on a tough-guy security role forthe Honeybee Innand Corneo’s estate, though there’s not much known about how he’ll interact with Cloud, Aerith, or Tifa.

Madam M

Similar in role to Rhodea, Madam M is another high-profile character from Wall Market with great influence. Owner of a popular hand-massage parlor in Wall Market, Madam M also has the authority to approve and audition women for entrance to Corneo’s private quarters as his “wife” for the night. She is described as a greedy “proprietress” who only shows courtesy to wealthy individuals for her own benefit. Cloud and Aerith will likely have to convince Madam M as well as Andrea, but it’s likely she will be much harder to convince. And, well, since none of Cloud’s party is some kind of big-wig millionaire, they’re going to need to be extra-persuasive if they’re going to arrange a meeting with Don Corneo.

Chocobo Sam

Chocobo handler who’s appropriately named Chocobo Sam is another one of Corneo’s lieutenants in Wall Market. Donning a very stereotypical ranch-hand/cowboy outfit, he runs a Chocobo delivery service for residents in the quarter, though he’s not as much of a straight shooter as he seems. Chocobo Sam is also known for his heavy addiction to gambling, betting only for the thrill instead of the monetary gain. He also seems to take on the role of an approver for Don Corneo’s call girls, though it’s unclear how Chocobos (other than the already revealed Chocobo and Moogle summon) or gambling may fit into that objective.

Of course there are other extraneous characters coming as well, but they won’t likely be part of the main story in any way.AmongFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s side quests, Characters like Chadley and the other characters found in mercenary quests will be new, but they’re not part of the mainFinal Fantasy 7story, and only serve to reward players with Materia or gil. They may share some little tidbits of story, but for now it’s not clear how pertinent to the story they will be. Other than that, fans are likely curious how the aforementioned characters are going to fit intoFinal Fantasy 7’s well-known narrative.
