While playing theFar Harbor DLCinFallout 4, players will encounter the quest “Best Left Forgotten,” in which DiMA, the leader of Acadia, asks the player to find their memories stored on a terminal in the Childen of Atom’s base.

In order to obtain these memories, players will have to complete at least three different puzzles (though there are five), which can be pretty buggy at times. Here’s how those puzzles work and how players can use console commands to skip them.

Fallout 4 - Simulation Reaching End

Updated by Erin Rice on July 01, 2025:This update added numbers to each step of the puzzles to help readers easily find information. It also added some clips to show exactly what to do.

How Do DiMA’s Memory Puzzles Work?

In order to reach the area where DiMA’s memories are, players will need to head into the Nucleus, which is where the Children of Atom are located on Far Harbor’s island. To enter it, players will need to speak with the members outside the building and then complete their quest to join the group. Afterward, they can enter the building and head to the Nucleus Command Center, which is located right off the main base and allows players to access DiMA’s Terminal.

Players may find that the memory puzzles are pretty confusing at the best of times. Players will be transported into a simulation where they will need to help Indexers (little green bugs) access data stored in large orange beams of light. They can place down Code Blocks (light blue blocks), which will allow the Indexers to crawl across them and reach the data. However, they may encounter Firewalls (red walls blocking the path), which will need to be destroyed by placing Decoder Relays (the other type of block) in front of the Decoder Beams (green beams) so that the Decoder Beam can shine through the Firewall and destroy it. The Firewalls can also be destroyed by Conduits, which can be unblocked and redirected to the Firewalls. There are also times when drones may appear and attack the Indexers, so the player will need to set down Defense Constructs to kill them. Here’s a breakdown of each thing in the simulation and what it does:

The final two puzzles are much harder and optional. They only tell players where a set of armor (which can be purchased or looted off specific NPCs) is located.

Console Commands To Skip DiMA’s Memory Puzzles

Thankfully, if the player is tired of trying to complete the puzzles, they can easilyenter console commandsto skip the stages of the quest if they want. However, this is only available with the PC version of the game, meaning console players will have to do the puzzles.

After skipping the puzzle stages, make sure to listen to the Holotapes obtained from the stages by accessing the inventory and navigating to the misc section. This is how players will advance the quest after skipping those stages.
