Ever since it announced the first exclusive game deal, theEpic Games Storehas been under fire by PC gamers despite a better revenue split for developers and the promise of free games. From the lack of a review system to a generally bare feature set, the Epic Game Store has plenty of areas where it can improve, but the latest reported news suggests there could be a major flaw with the digital PC game storefront. Apparently, the Epic Games Store is leaking players’Fortniteaccount information.
Over on a Reddit, a user by the name of the_creature_walks has called attention to the Epic Games Store and a potential vulnerability. According to them,Fortniteaccount details have leaked to Pastebin in the form of plain text e-mails and passwords, as well as the skins each account owns. Apparently, there is some vulnerability in the Epic Games Store that is allowing hackers to gain access to thisFortniteaccount information.
Now, it’s important to point out that this is only an alleged leak and has yet to be acknowledged by Epic Games. As the user points out, only about 600 accounts have been compromised and their information posted onto Pastebin. However, whether or not these logins are legitimate is yet to be confirmed.
Given the general displeasure surrounding the Epic Games Store for the aforementionedgame exclusivity deals, it’s entirely possible that someone is simply trying to drum up bad press for the Epic Games Store. Still, we recommend checking the Pastebin to see if your account has been compromised.
As mentioned, the discussion around the Epic Games Store from PC gamers has been decidedly negative. Yes, there are plenty who don’t mind the store or its exclusives but others are frustrated by having to use a launcher and store that isn’t Steam.
