The announcement of aGod of Warseries on Amazon has, unsurprisingly, been met with some mixed reactions. Whilethe Norse sagais filled with a strong story and standout characters, it is also packed with action and fantastical creatures, meaning a massive budget will be required to properly tell the story. Beyond that, fans are already concerned about casting for the show - though they may not need to be.
Though the two leads are unlikely to return, as Christopher Judge’s health problems could cause issues when taking on such a physical role and Sunny Suljic will be too old for Atreus at the start of the story, several other cast members could return. Not only were their characters modeled directly off them, but the actors are the right age to reprise the roles in a live action retelling ofGod of War.

God of War Actors That Can Easily Return For Amazon’s Series
First and foremost, there is The Stranger, AKABaldur. Portrayed by Jeremy Davies in the 2018 title, Baldur is a constant threat to Kratos, and his curse makes for some interesting storytelling. Fortunately, Baldur could feel completely unchanged in the show, as Jeremy Davies looks just like his character. From the facial hair and hairstyle to his height and build, everything fits well, so there would be little reason to recast. With experience in shows likeLost, too, Davies would surely thrive as Baldur on the small screen.
Similarly, Deborah Ann Woll makes perfect sense for Faye in the Amazon series. Not only is she another actor experienced with television, as Woll played Karen Page in shows likeDaredevilandThe Punisher, but Faye is modeled directly off her appearance. Despite only having a few scenes, Faye is an unforgettable character with some truly great dialogue. With Woll attached, someextra scenes between Faye and Kratoscould easily be added to the Amazon series, allowing fans to spend a bit more time with the giant and the Ghost of Sparta.
Richard Schiff’s Odinis yet another character that should be unchanged when retelling theGod of Warstory in a new format. Schiff nails the clever, mob boss nature of Odin, and his delivery of each line does a terrific job of making Odin more likable. Thanks to Schiff’s stellar performance, players may start to be deceived just like Atreus, having some doubts about whether Odin is villainous after all. Just like with Deborah Ann Woll and Jeremy Davies, Richard Schiff’s real life appearance is very similar to the look of his video game character.
Though Danielle Bisutti is not a perfect match for Freya appearance-wise, she could still be brought back, as there are enough similarities to keep the video game design mostly intact. Bisutti’s acting was terrific in theGod of Wargames, as Freya’s revenge on Odin and the scene where she regains the freedom to travel betweenthe Nine Realmsare both brilliant. Angrboda is yet another character that would not need an actor change, as Laya De Leon Hayes continues the trend of actors having similar appearances to their characters.
Characters that would likely be CGI, such as Brok,Sindri, and Ratatoskr, have no reason to be recast. Thor could prove difficult given his size, so if CGI has to be used to increase his weight and height, Ryan Hurst might as well return. Heimdall, Mimir - the list of actors that can and should return goes on and on. Though there could be a push from Amazon for an A-list cast that is filled with new actors and fresh portrayals of the games’ characters, many of the actors have experience working on TV and movies, and they look like their characters on top of that. Hopefully, this means there will be as little recasting as possible for the Amazon show.
