Now,Hogwarts Legacy 2is reportedly in development, which will undoubtedly continue to pull elements from theHarry Potterseriesand offer a sequel that will aim to have just as much, if not more, success as its predecessor did.
Hogwarts Legacyis chock-full ofHarry Potterlore for fans of the famed series and open-world games to enjoy. The game offers players a chance to attend classes at Hogwarts and learn new spells, complete quests, make new friends, and explore the Wizarding World in a way no otherHarry Pottergame has done before. Unfortunately, regardless of the game’s countless array of magical features, one major feature is missing fromHogwarts Legacythat its sequel should make up for.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs Quidditch
Despite its massive success,Hogwarts Legacylacked one major feature — specifically, the popular genre-encompassing sport of theHarry Potteruniverse, Quidditch.Quidditch is a fictional sport from theHarry Potterseriesthat bears similarities to almost every non-fictional sport, including soccer, football, and basketball. Over the years, it has become a huge staple of theHarry Potterfranchise, so some fans were gravely disappointed when they learned they would not be allowed to play the game inHogwarts Legacy. Now,Hogwarts Legacy 2has a chance to turn things around.
Rather than simply ignoring it altogether, theHogwarts Legacyattempted to justify its lack of Quidditch via the story. Professor Phineas Nigellus Black, the Hogwarts Headmaster ofHogwarts Legacy’s story, ordered the cancellation of Quidditch due to an alleged injury that occurred on the pitch. Based on what is revealed later in the game, however, it’s likely Professor Black had other intentions in canceling Quidditch.
Even thoughHogwarts Legacyattempted to explain its lack of Quidditch in its story, the primary reason presumably revolves around a multiplayer game currently in development by Unbroken Studios,Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which, likeHogwarts Legacy, is being published by Warner Bros. Games. Likely, publisher Warner Bros. didn’t wantHogwarts Legacyto have Quidditch because it didn’t wantHogwartsLegacy’s version of it to steal the spotlight fromQuidditch Champions.
The primary reason forHogwarts Legacylacking Quidditch presumably revolves around a multiplayer game currently in development by Unbroken Studios,Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
While the release ofQuidditch Championshas been all but confirmed to still be a ways off, it can be assumed that it will launch beforeHogwarts Legacy 2. As such, it may not necessarily hurtQuidditch Championsto putQuidditch inHogwarts Legacy 2. That being said, asQuidditch Championsis meant to be an ongoing live-service game, Warner Bros. may still decide to prohibit the sport from being included inHogwarts Legacy 2to continue drawing attention to Unbroken’s multiplayer game.
Judging by how controversial of a decision it was to prevent players from being allowed to enjoy Quidditch inHogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. is behooved to let the sport be present inHogwarts Legacy 2. Otherwise, the publisher will face even more backlash, and it could hurt sales in the long run. It’s currently unknown whether the sequel will incorporate the popular sport into its world, but the game is nonetheless reportedly in development.
