Hogwarts Legacy’s State of Play presentation featured a lot of in-game content and activities that players can expect to partake in. Hidden clues and context about certain monuments or interactibles in the environment may not be disclosed until the game releases, however, and there is surely a lot to explore in and around the castle grounds.

One of these environmental interactibles that players have made a particular note of is the recurring stone pedestals that feature a face sculpted into the monument. Following closer inspection, fans determined that a plaque beneath the face reads “Wildsmith,” which refers to Ignatia Wildsmith, the creator of Floo Powder in theHarry Pottermythology. These monuments hold a flickering green flame at their bases, and fans have since theorized that they will be able to fast-travel between these monuments inHogwarts Legacy. Now, this theory has seemingly been officially confirmed.

Hogwarts Legacyhas recently released another brief, atmospheric clip that shows an area inHogwarts Legacy’s Hogsmeade Village. In the background, past a small group of NPCs chatting together, fans can see another Wildsmith monument between sets of tables and chairs. Captioning the clip is a statement that says, “Hogsmeade can be reached quickly on foot, and even quicker by Floo Flame.” Clearly referencing the Wildsmith monument and the Floo Flame at its foot,Hogwarts Legacyseems to be affirming a fan theoryand stating that fast-travel will be available between these monuments.

It is unclear whether players will be able to select which Floo Flame they travel to in particular, or if they will need a Floo Powder item in order to traverseHogwarts Legacy’s intimate Floo Network.Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretsdepicts Floo Powder as requiring an associable area to be named while throwing it down into the flame, thus transporting the user there specifically. Harry’s mispronunciation of Diagon Alley sends him to the adjacent yet dodgy Knockturn Alley, for example, and thus the correct pronunciation is paramount.

This will likely not be the case inHogwarts Legacyas players will not be in control of the character’s pronunciation of the word. But it could lead to fun character displacements in unfamiliar areas nonetheless, such as how players are transported suddenly toYahar’gul’s Hypogean Gaol inBloodborneafter being sacked by a Snatcher.

Floo Flame monuments may need to be interacted with and unlocked prior to using them, which would encourage players to explore Hogwarts and Hogsmeade on foot in order to find these diverse fast-travel points. Either way, it will be exciting to see exactly how fast-travel is implemented alongside flight atop hippogriffs andbroomsticks inHogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacyis scheduled to be released in the holiday of 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
