Immortals Fenyx Risingis perhaps one of the most popular Ubisoft games to come out in recent years, not related to one of its domineering franchises. It did grow out of an idea forAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, but it seems to have gone a lot smoother thanSkull and Bones, which grew out ofAC: Black Flag. Because of this, it’s no surprise that Ubisoft is seeking to make it a franchise with a new entry.

However, one insider—Jeff Grubb—who revealed that this game was in the works said it was more of a spin-off than a sequel. It sounds more akin to an anthological entry than a sequel. That’s because it may feature a different title, as Fenyx is not the character, and it is reportedly moving away from its Greek/Chinese mythology. Grubb said it may not release until 2025 at least, as it is early in development and he has only seen concept art for it, but thisImmortalsfranchise entry supposedly features Polynesian mythology.

While there are a ton ofmythologies that could be in anImmortals Fenyx Risingsequel, Polynesian is a perfect choice. It’s not as popular as others like Greek or Norse mythology, giving it a unique setting, and Grubb also says it is trying to break away from theBreath of the Wildcomparisons. Visually it will be similar, but Ubisoft seems to be experimenting mechanically. Either way, this opens up a ton of new mythology that could be playfully explored.

However, again, Polynesia mythology does not appear as often in popular media like Norse or Greek. For those curious, here are a few quick details about the various Gods players could potentially meet in the newImmortals Fenyx Risinggame (as Grubb does confirm there is another God narrator).

Immortals Fenyx Rising’s Polynesian Setting has a Ton of Potential

This is only a small taste of the various mythologies a Polynesian-set game could dive into. What’s perhaps most interesting is that there is a category of spirit or deity known as Aumaku, who are guardian spirits that protect certain families. This could translate well to gameplay and combat with animal deities used as styles of attack, while object-based Aumaku could aid withImmortals Fenyx Rising’s puzzles and exploration.

While it remains to be seen what the final project looks like and these are just rumors for now, it’s hard not to see how this could be a great follow-up to Immortals Fenyx Rising.
