Summary
Xbox’s already stellar Games Showcase could’ve been even better according to a well-known Xbox community member. TheXboxshowcase kicked off withCall of Duty: Black Ops 6,and was followed up by a 23-minuteBlack Ops 6direct where Treyarch divulged some key story details about its campaign and revealed its new “omnimovement” system.
Xbox’s past few summer showcases have been great, but this year’s is being talked about as perhaps Xbox’s best ever. The large majority of the Xbox fanbase was blown away by the number of major first-party titles that showed face. Big updates on already known games, like long-awaited gameplay reveals forPerfect Dark, State of Decay 3,and Compulsion Games’South of Midnight, were tentpole moments of the show. Xbox fans got another look atFable, which was stamped with a 2025 release window, and this year’sAvowedandIndiana Jones and the Great Circlegot check-ins as well. Perhaps the biggest reveals of the show were theunveiling of id Software’sDoom: The Dark Agesand The Coalition’sGears of War: E-Day, the latter of which closed out the showcase with a dark and nostalgic bang as it revealed its focus on young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during Emergence Day.

A few days after the showcase, Parris Lilly, a prominent voice on Kinda Funny and Gamertag Radio, posted to Reseterawith some surprising news. After playfully gloating about having a hunch theXbox showcase would be a massive hit, Lilly went on to mention that several people within Xbox told him there were a lot more first-party games that could’ve also shown up at the already stacked showcase. He was also told that “…Gamescom is shaping up to be a big show too.”
There Could’ve Been Even More Big Games At Xbox’s Showcase
It’s incredible to think that even with all the games Xbox has shown off during its 2-hour showcase, its first-party studios have even more in store. Just a year ago, inXile unveiled its steampunk-inspired RPG,Clockwork Revolution, and just a few months later, at The Game Awards, Arkane Lyon announced itscollaboration with Marvel Games forMarvel’s Blade. These are games that may have been deemed to be announced too early to show up at this year’s showcase, though consideringSouth of Midnightwas also revealed just a year ago,ClockworkandBladeappearances wouldn’t have been out of the question.
told ya that Showcase was gonna be good and the wild thing is I had multiple people at Xbox tell me there was so much more they could have shown and Gamescom is shaping up to be a big show too
Whether some of these other Xbox games will show face at Gamescom is unknown, but it’s unlikely that Xbox will hold another full-blown showcase during Gamescom in August. That said,Xbox could still be planninga major presence at Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live, which is set for August 20.
