Netflix has released the first trailer forTiger King 2,the sequel to the massively popular true-crime docu-series that took the internet by storm last year. The trailer features the return of many of the eccentric and bizarre real-life characters featured in the first season, including big cat breeder Joe Exotic and his animal sanctuary nemesis Carole Baskin.

The fast-pacedTiger King 2trailer opens with Joe Exotic in prison as he bitterly vents about how everyone else from his notorious zoo is profiting off the success of the show, while he pays the price. We then see how the success ofTiger Kinghas positively affected the lives of the other subjects, including Jeff Lowe, the man who took over Exotic’s zoo, as he brags that he has “more money than god.” The rest of the trailer shows fans how many of the threads from the first season will be further explored, such as themysterious disappearance of Baskin’s ex-husband, as well as the vicious rivalry between Exotic and Lowe.

While the firstTiger Kingwill forever be remembered for its eccentric subject matter, it will also go down as one of the first big hits of the COVID-19 era. Premiering in March 2020,Tiger Kingbecame an overnight streaming successat a time when millions of people were stuck in their homes during seemingly endless lockdowns and quarantines. Fans were enthralled by the bizarre and frankly tragic tale of Joe Exotic and the underground world of big cat breeding. The show provided a perfect escapist reality for viewers to immerse themselves in, and became the biggest true crime hit since Netflix’s other docu-series,Making a Murderer.

Whether or not the sequel toTiger Kingwill be able to wrack up the same attention as the shocking first season remains to be seen, but considering howinsanely popular the firstTiger Kingseries was, it’s hard to see how it could fail. That being said, the conversation aroundTiger Kinglargely disappeared in the months following the show’s finale. In this day and age of streaming and viral content it’s hard to say what’s going to be a hit, and for how long.

It’s also possible that many of the subjects andthe filmmakers behindTiger Kingare realizing that the success of the docu-series has given them more money and attention than anything else, so they may be intentionally stringing viewers along in the hopes of staying relevant. Regardless,Tiger King 2is sure to be a wild ride, and hopefully, the big promises made in this trailer will pay off when the sequel premieres next month.

Tiger King 2will premiere exclusively on Netflix on November 12th, 2021.
