While many await the jolly holidays that are right around the corner, Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions andSpotifywant to make sure they deliver some chilling tales to those horror fans who have been good all year long.
Peele, the well-known comedian and horror junkie, teamed up withSpotifyto create “The scariest podcast ever.” TheirQuiet Part Loudpodcast will be a collection of 12 fictional, short-form episodes.Quiet Part Loudwill include some very well-known actors such as Tracy Letts fromFord v Ferrari,Arian Moayed from HBO’sSuccession, Christina Hendricks fromGood Girls,and Taran Killam fromSingle Parents.

According to Peele during an interview withVariety, the storyline for the podcast is set before the Trump presidency and follows Rick Egan (Letts). “[Egan is a] fear-mongering, ring-wing radio host who loses his platform in the wake of 9/11 for spreading xenophobic rumors surrounding a group of missing Muslim teenagers. Eight years later, the washed-up Egan is slumming it on the convention circuit when a mysterious woman (Hendricks) offers a tantalizing revelation: One missing teen has reappeared,” reads Variety’s synopsis ofQuiet Par Loud. “Egan embarks on a crusade for vindication and makes a bargain with a demonic shape-shifting monster known as “The Blank” (Killam) - which thrives on hatred.” Of course, anything Peele puts out must be as cinematic as possible, so even if audiences can’t visually see the story play out, audiences will be able to visualize the story themselves, bringing a very personal touch to the podcast itself.
The producers mention that when it came to sound, they pulled out all the stops by using immersive audio and sound design to give fans “a haunting parable and unflinching examination of the current state of fear and divisiveness in America” that “explores the roots of our conspiracy-obsessed culture where disinformation now runs rampant.” Peele also weighed in on why he created the podcast. “I’m always looking for new ways to explore and innovate in genre storytelling,” he said. “The potential in audio was tremendously appealing: By stripping horror of all visuals, you can just focus on conjuring dread and unease in your listener’s ear on this intimate and visceral level. I wanted to make this the scariest podcast of all time!”
Peele’s start in television was very opposite to what he has created in the most recent years. With titles likeMad TVandKey and Peele, most fans recognized him as a hilarious comedian. However, Peele’s first horror film,Get Out, which was written, directed, and produced by the talented filmmaker, showed audiences he was more than just a comedian. While audiences understand what films likeGet Out,Us, and therecently releasedNopeare about, in a general sense, there are many characters and themes that are left open-ended, leaving audiences to ponder what deeper meaning there is behind these stories. He is also diverse in his characters, making sure every underrepresented community is a part of his films in one way or another.
