Minecrafthas announced the armadillo as the winner of Mob Vote 2023. This month saw another edition of Minecraft Live, the popular event that brings players together to find out what’s new inMinecraft.

As well as announcing new updates and expansions forMinecraftgames, Minecraft Live includes the Mob Vote. In this vote, players vote on a new mob, with the winner eventually added to the game. The first Mob Vote winner was the Llama, a passive mob ideal for players who need to transport items, as it is possible to equip a chest on it.Last year’s Mob Vote winner was the Sniffer, an ancient passive mob that sniffs out seeds from various decorative plants. With the end of another Minecraft Live, another new mob has been selected forMinecraft.

Minecraftannounced the armadillo as the winner of Mob Vote 2023. This year five millionMinecraftplayers took part in the vote, two million more than in last year’s edition. Of these votes, 42.3% went to the armadillo, thesecond choice revealed for 2023’s Mob Vote. In second place came the crab with 32.5% of the players' votes. Found in Mangrove Swamps, the crab would drop an item that, according to Mojang, would allowMinecraftplayers to interact with blocks from a distance. The penguin came third with just 25.2% of the votes. Found in the Stony Shore biome, the penguin would provide a speed boost to players with the mob on board their boat.

While the crab and penguin would be found in water-related biomes, the armadillo spawns in the savannah biome. Like its real-world counterpart, the armadillo curls up into a ball when players startle it. The armadillos drop a scute likeMinecraftturtles, a valuable collectible item that players can use to craft wolf armor.Minecraftplayers have wanted wolf armorfor a long time, but it is currently only available in the game through mods. At the time of this writing, there is no precise date for the armadillo debut inMinecraft.

The Mob Vote is typically one of the most popular events in theMinecraftcommunity, but the event has faced controversy this year. SomeMinecraftplayers created apetition against the Mob Vote, arguing that it limitsMinecraft’s potential for new content. Mojang hasn’t commented on the petition. Since it is a traditional moment in theMinecraftannual calendar, the Mob Vote will likely not be canceled by the company.
