When the SNES Classic Edition released back in 2017, many gamers lamented the fact thatthe system was missing games such asEarthworm Jim, with fans' desires for the platform game to be on Nintendo’s mini-console proving to be a testament to the IP’s popularity. Although fans weren’t able to revisit the property on the SNES Classic, it looks like they could be receiving a new entry in the series altogether, as Intellivision Entertainment has now announced a newEarthworm Jimgame is in development.
According to Intellivision, ten of the original programmers, artists, audio team members, and level designers have come back together to work on a newEarthworm Jimgame for the upcoming Intellivision Amico video game console. On June 19, 2025 at noon PT, there will be a live interactive simulcast streaming event set to last for 20 minutes that will consist of the team’s first design meeting forEarthworm Jim.

During the design meeting, theEarthworm Jimteam will talk about their vision for the new game, and will be showing off some original art pieces as well. What’s more is that some of the art and 50 new posters will be signed and given away to fans who tune into the livestream.
For those unaware,Earthworm Jimwill be celebrating its 25-year anniversary in 2019, as it originally released way back in 1994 for theSega Genesis, and was subsequently ported to other systems. The last time the team had worked together was on the platform game’s direct sequel,Earthworm Jim 2, which came out in 1995.
Taking everything here into consideration, it will be interesting to see how the newEarthworm Jimgame’s development will fare, and if the fresh title will be able to retain what made the original so special while also being able to cater to contemporary audiences.Earthworm Jimis a game we wanted to see get a reboot, so perhaps the development team behind the new project will totally revamp the initial title in the series and go from there.
The newEarthworm Jimgame has yet to receive an official release date, but will be available for the Intellivision Amico console, which is expected to launch on July 16, 2025.
