A game that was supposed to have launched onXboxGame Pass is still not available for download. Tactics gamePhoenix Pointwas supposed to launch simultaneously on the Epic Game Store, the Microsoft store, and on Game Pass. However, the game currently isn’t up for purchase or download on the Xbox One.
Phoenix Pointis developed byXCOMseriescreator Julian Gollop. This is a tactics game much in the same vein as the modern entries in theXCOMfranchise. It also has a similar sci-fi setting, despite a different visual aesthetic fromXCOM’s retro-future look. The game was set to be released on PC and Xbox One last week, but only arrived on one of the platforms.

Following the lack ofPhoenix Point’s arrival on the Microsoft Store and Game Pass, developer Snapshot Games released a statement on its blog addressing the issue saying “we dropped the ball.”
The answer to whyPhoenix Pointdid not hit its release date on Xbox is far less exciting than anything fans might have rampantly speculated.
The fact is we dropped the ball. We were exceedingly busy getting the game itself ready, and being inexperienced with Game Pass and the Microsoft Store, we simply had not properly prepared the groundwork to get the game released on time on these platforms. Compared to other platforms we’re on these platforms require a number of pre-requisites, from Microsoft certification to legal documentation review. While these are now mostly complete, they have given rise to a number of new delays.
Specifically, we are currently unable to make the same content available on Microsoft’s platform that is available to players on other platforms. Since we want to verify all players have access to all versions of Phoenix Point regardless of where they choose to play, we need to get this working before we can release.
It turns out most of the barriers to the games' release on Xbox are legal. Snapshot games wants to get the game to a level comparable to the PC release before launching on the Microsoft and Windows Store andXbox Game Pass. The statement on the blog gave no ETA or expected release date forPhoenix Pointon console.
Phoenix Pointis out now on the Epic Game Store and is pending release on Xbox One.
