Out of all of DC’s upcoming 2022 releases, it seems that none is more hyped than Matt Reeves’The Batman. A new official poster for the upcoming DC project adds to the film’s darker, ominous tone.

The Batmanwill take place in Bruce Wayne’s/Batman’s second year of fighting as he is forced to deal with corruption and track down a new enemy known as the Riddler. After last year’s DC FanDome event featured the debut of thevery first trailer forThe Batman, which was then still early in production, the film’s thrilling second trailer, which premiered roughly a month ago at this year’s DC FanDome, highlighted the much darker atmosphere and hand-to-hand combat scenes that elevated the hype even more.

The aforementioned new poster features Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight in a red background with a layer of fog, furthering the edgier aesthetic seen in a few previous posters and other promotional images. What’s more interesting, though, is that the logo on the new poster also includes a silhouette ofZoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle / Catwomanstanding next to a silhouette of Pattinson’s Batman. Perhaps this is another hint of Catwoman playing a more important role in the film.

Reeves has already confirmed that the film will focus heavily on a noir-driven, detective version of the DC hero. His adaptation also appears to be more faithful to the original comics, with an even grittier, more gothic Gotham City (thanks to Greig Fraser’s wonderful cinematography) that is closer to Tim Burton’sBatmanfilms rather thanChristopher Nolan’s more realisticBatmantrilogy.

While the film is still months away, Reeves’Batmanuniverse is already setting up plenty of future content for fans to indulge in. There are already two planned sequels and two spin-off television series in early development for HBO Max, with one series centering on the Penguin and the other focusing on the Gotham City Police Department. The latter series was revealed to be set during Batman’s first year of crime-fighting, from the perspective of a corrupt GCPD officer.

The Batmanalso stars Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone,Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Peter Sarsgaard as district attorney Gil Colson, and Barry Keoghan as young officer Stanley Merkel. Reeves co-wrote the script with Peter Craig (The Town,The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1and2,Top Gun: Maverick).

The Batmanis set to release in theatres on March 4th, 2022.
