Quake 2 Remasteredcould be in development right now, according to new listings regarding age ratings for the unannounced title. Known as one of thebest FPS games ever,Quake 2was an innovative shooter with addictive multiplayer, and many fans will be glad to know that they will be able to play an improved version of it soon.

Made by id Software as the successor of the famousDoomfranchise, the originalQuakewas a huge hit, using its own engine with graphics that were impressive for PC gaming at the time. Its sequelQuake 2was released in 1997, around a year after the original one, and it was a completely different experience when compared to the first game. The atmosphere was completely changed, as the dark rooms filled with strange creatures from the first game were changed for a much more sci-fi-inspired setting during an alien invasion. Despite these drastic changes,Quake 2also managed to satisfy gamers due to its excellent gunplay and fast-paced action. Now, it seems that a remaster is underway.

The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has recently ratedQuake 2 Remastered, a game that was currently not officially announced by id Software. The details unveiled by the rating agency state that the title will be launched for PC, and will have excessive expressions of violence, blood, and gore. That’s about what anyone would expect from good oldQuake 2, but possibly with better graphics, 4K resolution support, and a few quality-of-life tweaks, especially concerning the multiplayer modes, considering thatQuake 2is among the best multiplayer arena shootersout there.

FPS fans can be fairly confident that the remaster will be out eventually, as a very similar event has already happened before. Back in 2021, the same Korean rating agency confirmed that the originalQuakewas being remastered. Soon after that,Quake Remasteredwas officially unveiled at QuakeCon 2021. So far, everything points out to history repeating itself.

The upcoming QuakeCon 2023 will be happening between August 10 and 13 in the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. Last year,QuakeCon 2022 only happened onlinedue to the pandemic, so it’ll be the first time in three years that gamers will be able to go in person to the event and learn more about what id Software has in store for the upcoming months. Hopefully, fans will get more information about when the remaster will be out then, and maybe some new insight about other games, too.

Quake 2is currently available for Nintendo 64, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox 360. A remaster is rumored to be in development for PC.
