OverwatchandPokemonare two of the most popular video game franchises around, as each has millions of fans around the world. It also means that there’s a lot of overlap of fans who love bothOverwatchandPokemonand so it’s only fitting that a fan has now designed an incredible crossover game.
A new video by YouTuber iDeViL360 reimagines Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter as aPokemon-style game called ‘PokeWatch TalonRed Version’ named after theOverwatchantagonist group ‘Talon’. The professor who welcomes players to the fray is Dr. Junkenstein, who is decidedly less evil than he is in theOverwatchHalloween event, the player character is Tracer, and her rival is Roadhog.
ThePokeWatchvideo includes plenty more staples from thePokemonseries too.Overwatchmaps, Ilios, Route 66, and Numbani get aPokemonmakeover and Tracer can even select one of three PokeWatch starters (Torbjörn, Genji, and D.Va), each with their benefits and downsides.
The video also includes theOverwatchmeta, seeing the PokeWatch version of Genji use ‘Deflect’ for a “super effective” attack against Bastion. Even winged healer Mercy gets in on thePokeWatchfun; she’s a lot less friendly than the usual Pokemon Center nurses though as she doesn’t want players to keep begging for heals and wants Blizzard to stop nerfing her too.
As far as fan-made crossovers go, thisPokemonandOverwatchmash-up is pretty fantastic and it’s not hard to see why the video has proved to be so popular already. Fans love the idea of playingOverwatchon the go and are eager for morePokemon-style gameplay.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that a game like this could ever happen in an official capacity. But who’s to say that a mobile or handheld port ofOverwatchcouldn’t happen?Overwatchis one of the most-requestedNintendo Switch portsas players would relish the chance to dash as Tracer, amp it up as Lucio and play as the rest of the characters on the move as well. Many fans would enjoy the chance to level up and unlock loot boxes during their travels too.
Blizzard recentlyclamped down onOverwatchmobile clones, showing that it is well aware that people are interested in a portable version of its game. Maybe the company will even make an official mobile or handheld port just to appease fans. That wouldn’t be the same as a fully fledgedPokemon-styleOverwatchRPG, but fans of the series would still be over the moon.
