For some players, the endorphin hit they get when a loot box gives them exactly what they have been grinding for is the perfect feeling of validation for their time spent in a game. A title likeOverwatchis one game that can provide that feeling, with the large roster of colorful characters providing a big list of rare skins to earn. It is this rarity, though, which has become a topic of discussion for many players on social media after one curious player asked fellowOverwatchfans what skin they feel is the rarest.
Reddit user BlizzLee posed the question onOverwatch’s official subreddit, wanting to know what other players felt are currently the rarest skins to find in the game. While at first glance BlizzLee’s question sounds like they are talking about skins still available to earn, BlizzLee provides multiple examples which are no longer available, as they were only able to be acquired during specific times or events. The examples BlizzLee provided include Bation’s 2016 BlizzCon skin, the2018 Pink Mercy skinas part of breast cancer awareness, and the Noire Widowmaker pre-order bonus skin from the game’s release.

BlizzLee’s questions ended up causing a proverbial avalanche in the comments section, as several other players were quick to chime in with what they felt are the rarest skins. Two of the common answers seen are skins from the 2018/2019 season of theOverwatchLeague, many of which were pulled due to several teams changing their colors and logo designs, and any crossover skins released such as the Illidan skin for Genji orStarCraft-inspiredReinhardt skin.
That said, a quick scroll through the comments will also turn up plenty of other skins, such as theMedic Brigitteor Sigma Florida Mayhem skins, which some players may argue are the rarest since only a small number of players even think to bring them up.
Considering howOverwatchis in its sixth year andOverwatch 2will release October 2022, it is understandable that there are enough obscure and rare skins to make such as debate as lively as it is in the post’s thread.Overwatchisn’t the only game to do it, either, as plenty of live service games release limited-time cosmetic content as a way to incentivize the game’s community to either play the game or buy it outright.
