Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransomwill seeCillian Murphyand Paul Anderson reprise their roles as Tommy Shelby and Arthur Shelby respectively. The game will task players with infiltrating the criminal underworld of Birmingham whilst gaining the trust of the Shelby family. Although there is no set release date yet, the game is scheduled to launch sometime in 2022. Maze Theory promises an epic crime drama that will include reactive characters and a story that is influenced by the players decisions. The game is set in 1928, which means that the events of this story will take place somewhere in between the fourth and fifth season of its TV counterpart.
The trailer offers but a glimpse at the storyline. The voice-over of Tommy Shelby talks about a dispatch box belonging to Winston Churchill that’s filled with guns and secrets. Maze Theory has also said that players will experience visceral combat to go alongside the difficult moral choices throughout the story. In terms of the casting, getting Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson on board for thisVR adaptationis a coup for the title. Having them lend their likeness to the story will only help to immerse players in the virtual world that they’ll be entering when playingPeaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom.
This isn’t the first video game to come to market based on the critically acclaimed BBC original series. The firstPeaky Blindersvideo game wasPeaky Blinders: Mastermind,a puzzle adventure game set before the events of the TV series. WhilePeaky Blinders: Mastermindis set before the TV show, it’s been announced that there will be aPeaky Blindersmovie set after the show has concluded. This is another example of the franchise having the ability to shift between mediums.
Some may have been hoping for games with a larger scope built for the mainline consoles. However, it is undeniable that what BBC is doing with thePeaky Blinderslicense is interesting and warrants interest inPeaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom.Potential players will have to wait to find out if any more of theiconic characters from thePeaky Blindersshowwill make an appearance during their time in Birmingham.
Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransomwill be released in 2022 on Oculus Quest.
