Summary
A Reddit user was faced with a grim reality recently after they removed theirPlayStation VR2headset to find that they’d shattered their television screen. Just to rub extra salt in the wound, the stark moment of realization came just moments after the player had completed a game, turning what should have been a time for celebration into a moment of agonizing despair.
Despite thePlayStation VR2hardware boasting a plethora of safety features designed to prevent players from injuring themselves or causing damage to their surroundings, accidents can and do still happen. Thankfully, most of these are fairly minor, such as players yanking the tether cable out of their consoles or stubbing their toes on nearby furniture. Sometimes, however, the damage caused can be a lot more serious.

Redditor Bad_Friday posted about their accident in the PSVR subreddit, sharing a picture of the damage to their television screen. The caption above the image explains that they’d just completedHubris, with the credits for thehighly immersive PS VR2 gamestill visible on the broken display. The point of impact is just to the right of them and effectively renders the television useless for everything but split-screen gaming.
Many Redditors commented on the post to offer their condolences, but some questioned why the poster was standing so close to their TV in the first place. Others pointed out thatHubrisis one of manyPlayStation VR2 games that can be played while sitting down, though, as Bad_Friday retorts, the experience is far less immersive this way. That said, they did later concede that they should perhaps “chill on the barrel rolls” during future PS VR2 sessions.
For those old enough to remember it, the image of the broken screen will likely evoke memories of the Nintendo Wii. The innovative yet somewhat dangerous motion controls introduced byNintendo’s seventh-generation consoleclaimed the lives of countless television displays during the system’s heyday, not to mention their fair share of mirrors, vases, and other household objects.
As for Bad_Friday, they’re already planning tobuy a new televisionand are busy coming up with ways to prevent a repeat of their recent accident. In the meantime, though, they can at least still enjoy their PS VR2, as it’s possible to use the headset while the television connected to the PS5 is switched off. In fact, this is a great way to save power and is actually the preferred way of playing for many PlayStation VR2 users.
