Summary
APokemonfan has added a new Convergent form to their list of fan works, this time giving Gengar a Convergent form. The cleverPokemondesign has generated a few ideas on naming from fellow fans, and shakes up its typing to become a Flying/Dark-Type Pokemon.
Gengar has been a fan favorite since its introduction many years ago in Gen 1. It’s apparently been a popular choice of Game Freak’s as well, receivingunique forms through Dynamaxingand Gigantamaxing. Fans take it even further, frequently choosing the Pokemon to give new forms, evolutions, or fusion mash-ups to.

Pokemonfan and prolific artist Just-Drawing-Mons created a newConvergent Formfor Gengar, removing its typical Ghost/Poison-typing and switching it to Flying/Dark-type instead. The idea is clearly rooted in giving Gengar a bat-like form, and maintains the general spooky theme Gengar has had from the start. As it’s no longer a Ghost, Gengar’s new form looks more corporeal, and while it maintains its iconic grin, it’s also developed pronounced ears, a bat-like nose, and its hands have been traded out for wings. This Convergent Gengar also has large fangs, adding a bit more of a sinister quality to it.
Fellow fans have been curious about the creation, and Just-Drawing-Mons encouraged their audience to suggest names, as they couldn’t come up with anything for this particular design on their own. Two fans suggested slight variations to Gengar’s usual name, turning it into Genbat, Golgar, or Vampar. One amusing suggestion was to flip its name into Ragneg, as the Pokemon would likely be hanging upside down, given its new bat characteristics.
Gengar’s Future in Pokemon
Game Freak certainly doesn’t seem to shy away from giving Gegnar new forms, but it’s not clear how the Pokemon will continue to change in the future. Mega Evolutions are coming back inPokemon Legends: Z-A, so fans can likely expect to seeMega Gengarreturn there. It’s possible that a Paradox Gengar could exist at some point, thoughPokemon Legends: Z-Amay not be the place it appears. If Game Freak comes out with an entirely new form in the future, Gengar seems like a likely pick to get an upgrade yet again.
In the meantime, fans are always coming up withnew ideas for Gengaror just celebrate the Pokemon as it is. Even if the Pokemon shifts to the background in the future, Gengar’s long-standing popularity seems unlikely to budge.
