Summary

One creativePokemonfan artist designed adorable baby forms for Absol, Skarmory, and Carnivine. When it comes toPokemonfan art, creating new forms is a common trope. However, most artists tend to design epic evolutions of existing Pokemon rather than cute baby versions.

Baby Pokemon were introduced in the series' second generation alongside the concept of breeding. Pokemon like Pichu, Magby, and Elekid were added as baby forms of existing creatures inPokemon Silver and Gold. The franchise didn’t stop there, however, as some of thebest baby Pokemon, like Riolu, Munchlax, and Toxel, were introduced in later generations.

Reddit user PhantomLink2782 shared some of their newly designed baby Pokemon they wished were real. The talented artist created baby forms of existing Pokemon, Skarmory, Absol, and Carnivine. The fan-designed creatures are referred to as Skarling, Abstray, and Carnibloom respectively. Of all three creations, Abstray appears to be a favorite among the community with its cute puppy-like design. PhantomLink2782 is no stranger to franchise-related art either, as thePokemonfan recently wowed the community with their Ghost-type fusions.

Not only did the artist create stunning designs for each of the Pokemon, but they also wrote up various Pokedex entries and detailed the abilities of each of the creatures. Skarling and Carnibloom are both more mischievous Pokemon known to steal from unsuspecting trainers, while Abstray is a bit of a carefree partner. Not to mention, PhantomLink2782 used clever naming conventions for each of the baby forms, just like when thePokemonfan artist created Pikachu variants for every possible type. Lastly, the artist gave each baby Pokemon a shiny form as well as a unique ability. Skarling’s Feather Shroud cloaks itself in defensive metal feathers, Abstray’s Harmony Aura lessens hostile encounters, and Carnibloom’s Budding Vine helps it foster relationships with other Pokemon.

While fans might wonder aboutwhich Paldea Pokemon needs an evolution in Gen 10, artist PhantomLink2782 is going the other way with it by asking which existing creature should get a baby form. It’s a valid question considering thePokemonfranchise has all but abandoned creating new baby forms in recent years. In fact, the only new baby pocket monster since Gen 4 is Toxel, who debuted inPokemon Sword and Shield. As one commenter points out, however, fans would like to see evolutions of Pokemon like Skarmory, Absol, and Carnivine too.

What’s nice about fan art like this is that it also shines a light on some underappreciated Pokemon. While Absol is relatively popular, Skarmory and Carnivine aren’t regularly cited as fans' favorites. That being said, with a franchise this large and popular, every Pokemon is likely to be beloved by at least one fan, so it’s nice that pieces like these can help showcase typically underrepresented characters.
