While manyPokemon GOplayers may be attempting to battle and catch the latest additions to the mobile augmented reality game’s Raid Boss roster,Latios and Latias, one player has slightly diverged from the beaten path. Whereas many players coordinate efforts and create battle parties to take on raid battles, Nate Taylor – a member of The Silph Road – has taken down every tier one raid boss with a single Rattata.
Inspired by other absurd raid fights, Taylor decided to come up with his own, and it appears an old NPC called “Youngster Joey” was influential. Many players may remember this NPC who boasted that his Rattata was in “the top percentage” of the rodent-like Pokémon. Clearly, this is why Taylor named his Rattata “top percent.” There’s even a badge inPokemon GOthat alludes to this NPC – the Youngster badge for catching X number of Rattata.
Caught when Taylor was around level 34, Top Percent had perfect stats, so Taylor continued to level up the pocket monster “and, in true Joey fashion, bragged about him incessantly to anyone who would listen.” After seeing the video, depicted below, of Top Percent facing the tier one raid bosses, it’s hard not to be impressed, even though it’s a tough battle for the Rattata. Moreover, Taylor has suggested that he may not even be done.
Against Swablu, Snorunt, Wailmer, and Magikarp (which is currently amajor grind to evolve), Top Percent dodges swiftly and comes equipped with Tackle and Hyper Fang as its fast and charge move. This video is a major motivation for Taylor to continue with Top Percent, he suggests, as he may very well move onto battling Ghost-types such as Duskull and Shuppet.
Whether Taylor continues with Top percent remains to be seen, but he also revealed that he was interested in participating in other themed challenges, claiming to be eager for Metapod to return to the raid rotation. Speaking of in-game themes,Pokemon GO’snext event revolves aroundEarth Day, which occurs shortly after Mareep’s Community Day. For players interested in taking on personal challenges inPokemon GOor taking on the community-themed events, the game continues to have a lot to offer its player base.
