Pokemon SwordandShield’s The Crown Tundra DLC features more than 100 returning Pokemon, and many trainers will undoubtedly want to catch them all. That said, while many of these returning Pokemon can be obtained very easily, others are quite a bit more elusive. Perhaps the most elusive of them all is Victini, and indeed many questions about how to acquire this Gen 5Mythical Pokemonare currently circulating among the community.
To start, the only currently-confirmed way to get Victini inPokemon SwordandShieldis to usePokemon Home. For the uninitiated,Pokemon Homeallows players to store and transfer their Pokemon across generations, and fans that have obtained Victini in a previous game can thus utilize the service to bring it toSwordandShield. However, this does not appear to be the end of the story with Victini, as there is indication that this Psychic/Fire-type Pokemon can be encountered directly in the new games.

More specifically, dataminers have uncovered reference to a static encounter with a Level 70VictiniinPokemon SwordandShield’s code. This reference additionally indicates that Victini is Shiny locked in the games, and that suggests that the Gen 5 Pokemon is not hiding in a Raid Den. Indeed, the evidence seems to point to the idea that the encounter with Victini will be offered as a reward upon meeting certain conditions, and players are now busy trying to determine exactly what those conditions are.
The prevailing sentiment at the time of writing seems to be that the Victini encounter is somehow tied toThe Crown Tundra’s Galarian Star Tournament, which can be unlocked after completing the main story. Victini’s connection to the concept of victory certainly gives some credence to this theory, and perhaps taking a very specific approach to the tournament is the key to catching the Pokemon. That said, players have not been able to land on a satisfactory approach just yet.
Separately, some fans believe that accessing the Victini encounter has something to do with collecting Legendary Pokemon fromThe Crown Tundra’s Dynamax Adventures, while others think that it is simply not accessible right now. Again, none of these theories can be verified or refuted at this time, but it is very likely that will change in the upcoming days. Until then players that really want to see Victini inPokemon SwordandShieldwill need to turn to toPokemon Homeor look for a trade.
