Summary
The leaked documents from the Rhysida ransomware attack suggest thatInsomniac Gamesmay be working onSpider-Versecontent. Following the success ofSpider-Man 2, fans are already speculating about what’s coming next, though the recent leak may have provided a clearer picture of whatInsomniac Gameshas in store.
Insomniac Games has become one of Sony’s most successful studios. Unsurprisingly, its success has also meant attracting the attention of cybercriminals and earlier this week,Insomniac was reportedly targeted by a cyberattack. Since then, Sony has publicly stated that the company is aware of the reports and that it’s investigating the incident. The company also mentioned that it doesn’t believe the breach impacted other Sony divisions.

As firstreported by cyberdaily, the Rhysida group released sensitive documents threatening to release the full dataset in seven days should Insomniac fail to pay up. Among these documents include content regarding its upcomingWolverinegame as well as hints about other projects Insomniac Games may have in development. One document which appears to be related to a job role states “additional support forSpider-Verse” while another listsSpider-Man3 and supposedlySpider-Verseas planned titles for Insomniac. The Sony studio hasn’t officially commented on anySpider-Versegame in the works, though the call-out could also point to a possible DLC as opposed to a full-blown title.
However, some believe this could take the form of a multiplayer game, asInsomniac is already confirmed to be working on an unannounced gamealong withMarvel’s Wolverine. More importantly, previous job listings and rumors have pointed to a multiplayer title, despite the studio’s silence on the matter. While the project could be based on its other franchises or a brand-new IP, a possible Spider-Verse multiplayer game would work in the studio’s favor. This is particularly true considering the current popularity ofSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseand the expectations surrounding its sequel.
A potentialSpider-Manmultiplayer game would also fall in line with Sony’s plans to release more live-service titles in the coming years. However, it won’t be surprising to see if Sony ends up scaling back its plans, particularly amid the current challenges around the live-service space. With Naughty Dog’s ownThe Last of Usmultiplayer in a tricky situation, it will be interesting to see howInsomniac Gamesnavigates the situation. Regardless, the promise of potentialSpider-Versecontent from the studio is bound to entice fans all the same.
