Don’t look now, but it’s been almost four years since fans last saw aDeadpoolmovie. That seems so weird given how well-received and financially profitable that movie franchise has been since it began in 2016. Hopefully fans won’t be deprived for much longer, as it appears Ryan Reynolds won’t have to hold his articulate tongue for much further.

Reynolds, whose comedic stardom has only risen sinceDeadpoolwas released with acclaimedcomedies likeDetective PikachuandFree Guy, gave some possible hints about what the future holds for movies starring the merc with the mouth. Overall, it may not have been much, but hey, something is better than nothing.

Reynolds kept it brief whenasked aboutDeadpool 3during a conversation with Collider. “We pretty much talk about everything, but I’ll say this about that particular subject is I’ll have a batch of updates on that sooner rather than later, I hope," Reynolds said. “So I’ll be able to get into stuff about Deadpool a little bit more clearly and definitively down the road.”

Even if the details remain unclear, there could be understandable reasons as to whyDeadpool 3is still in the developmental stage. Anyone with a sound mind would assume that the pandemic’s impact probably hindered a lot of film productions, so, given how long it’s been, it’s safe to say that theDeadpoolfranchise was probably one of them. Plus, it may be proving difficult to integrateDeadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In all honesty, there really shouldn’t be any rush to produce a thirdDeadpoolmovie. People are now hopefully and finally moving past this awful pandemic once and for all. Getting back to normal life at one hundred percent capacity will take time for everyone. As enjoyable and fresh astheDeadpoolmovieshave been, maybe it’s better for Marvel Studios to have more time to properly develop another satisfactory installment.

The challenge ahead for them though is keeping it fresh. Deadpool’s main appeal in the movies was the mixing of the superhero genre with gore, raunchiness, and above all else, meta-humor. In spite of having a similar tone in both of its movies, it never felt like the second one was repeating the same thing as the first. Keeping that up may be difficult because audiences are now more familiar with this material than they were going into these first two movies. Being integrated into the MCU will open up more possibilities, but fans will only know for sure when they finally see the potty-mouthed paladin back in action.

Deadpoolcan currently be watched on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney Plus in Canada.
