Since its theatrical release,Shazam! Fury of the Godshasn’t been able to catch a break. Fans and critics alike have pointed out the movie’s flaws; one fan spotted a detail that doesn’t fit the overarching timeline.Director David F. Sandberg had to combat his fair share of backlash from fans overShazam! Fury of the Gods. One conversation centered aroundGal Gadot’s cameo as Wonder Woman. After a video surfaced showing Gadot’s body double performing on the set ofShazam! Fury of the Gods, fans began speculating that Gadot had never been on set and that her cameo resulted from the editors using Deepfake technology. Sandberg quickly countered that argument, sharing a video of himself directing Gadot remotely to prove that the Wonder Woman audiences saw was 100% Gadot.RELATED:Could Dwayne Johnson Have Saved Shazam 2?Unfortunately, that didn’t close the matter of Wonder Woman-related critiques. User @Ajay005RB posted a screenshot featuring a news clipping of Wonder Woman on Twitter, asking, “How tf did they take this picture?” The picture in question should look familiar to DC fans - it’s a shot fromWonder Womanwhen Gadot is stepping into no man’s land during the movie. Fans might remember that this scene is set in the middle of a battle in World War I, which leads to @Ajay005RB’s question - how did someone take that picture? While cameras existed in 1917, they weren’t known for their mobility or crisp detail. It seems unlikely that a camera person was waiting above the trenches to capture a shot of the Amazonian hero.

While it’s the most recent critique of the movie, it isn’t the biggest issue fans have had with theShazam!sequel. The movie has a 47% onMetacriticand a 49% onRotten Tomatoes- which doesn’t qualify as “Certified Fresh.” Fan complaints have ranged from the movie’s comedy not landing to the main characters lacking meaningful development. That being said, the audience score for the movie on Rotten Tomatoes is 89%, so while some fans might not have loved it, they’ve overall been much more forgiving than critics.

The shot fromWonder Womanin a news clipping inShazam! Fury of the Godsdoesn’t break the DCEUtimeline, and it’s barely even to the level of a plot hole. However, some fans may see it as another example of the sequel letting them down. It’s possible the picture was included as an easter egg and wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. With theShazam!franchise relying on humor and levity, it’s likely the picture was meant to be a fun find for eagle-eyed fans.

Unfortunately, with big-budget productions likeGame of ThronesandThe Last of Usseemingly slacking and accidentally including coffee cupsor crew members in shots, fans are always looking for another forgotten Starbucks cup. Whether the production team intended for the picture to be a shortcut or a fun easter egg, it’s at least keeping the movie on people’s lips and people’s minds.

Shazam! Fury of the Godswill be available to stream on July 22, 2025, on HBO Max.
