In the month of February, news relating to the future of theSonic the Hedgehogvoice cast has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Beginning with the announcement thatRoger Craig Smith would depart from his role as Sonic, several voice actors had come forward relating to their future within Sega’s flagship series.
Following the announcement of theSonicNetflix-exclusive series and Roger Craig Smith stepping down from his role, curious fans wished to know the future of the other voice actors, some of whom voiced their respective roles for as long as Smith’s role. Colleen O’Shaughnessey was one of several voice actors to chime in on the status of their role within theSonic the Hedgehogseries, however, a misconception relating to her future involving Tails enabled O’Shaughnessey to clear up prior confusion.

Several days after Smith’s announcement, aSonicfan on Twitter asked O’Shaughnessey if she would be returning to voice Tails for the Netflix series. Strictly answering the question and nothing more, she had confirmed that she would not reprise her role as Tails forSonic Prime, leading some fans to believe that she would also step down from herrole as the twin-tailed fox. Earlier today, O’Shaughnessey tweeted a photo of a Tails Funko that she recently obtained, replying to a fan that she and Tails “weren’t finished” when the fan expressed sadness over the possibility of the voice actor leaving.
Colleen O’Shaughnessey is a veteran voice actor who is also best known for roles including Sora Takenouchi from theDigimon Adventureseries, Jazz Fenton fromDanny Phantom, and Ino Yamanaka from theNarutoseries. Prior to playing the role as Tails, starting withSonic Boom,O’Shaughnessey voiced fellowSonic the Hedgehogcharacter Charmy Bee for over a decade. As of this writing, she is still the current voice of Charmy alongside Tails. O’Shaughnessey reprised her role as Tails in the 2020 feature filmSonic the Hedgehog,being the only originalSoniccharacter who wasn’t recast for the movie.
With her future as the role of Tails cleared up, she joins fellow voice actor Mike Pollock as the two voice actors confirmed to keep their roles following the aftermath of theSonic the Hedgehogcast. Cindy Robinson, the former voice of Amy, had announced her departure around the same time as Roger Craig Smith’s departure from Sonic, leaving the role for Sonic and Amy currently vacant. Ryan Drummond, the original video game voice of Sonic, has expressedinterest in wanting to reprise the role of Sonic, but as it stands, Sega has not made an announcement involving the future of theSonic the Hedgehogcast.
