In the wake of autumn, Rob Zombie finally lets fans in on some of what is going on with his elusive upcoming remake film ofThe Munsters. The beloved and short-lived classic from the ’60s has yet to see a successful remake project and Zombie seems to be going all out with the details.
In a recent Instagram post from the set of the possiblePeacockfilm, Zombie shares photos of the construction of the iconic Mockingbird Lane, withthe Munsters homesitting partially completed at the end. Zombie’s post reads, “Mockingbird Lane lives again," and, “It’s a beautiful day in Budapest and good old Mockingbird Lane is coming along perfectly. Who wouldn’t want to live here?”

1313 Mockingbird Lane comes to life intheMunstersimagesthat show the set partially constructed. Already the spooky mansion stands out against the other bright and modern homes on the street. The production crew of the film has shared some photos in the past months of different costumes, masks, and prosthetic attachments being created and coming to life. However, details on the highly anticipated film have mostly been kept under wraps.
Zombie has not confirmed any cast at this time, but Murphy’s Multiverse came forward with some rumored cast members back in March that include Zombie’s wife Sheri Moon as Lily Munster and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster. Other rumored cast members include Richard Brake, Dan Roebuck, Jorge Garcia, and Cassandra Peterson (a.k.a. Elvira).The newMunstersfilmis being made under Universal Home Entertainment, and it has also been rumored that the film may end up becoming a Peacock streaming exclusive, with other upcoming horror films potentially following suit. The original show is currently streaming on Peacock in its entirety.
The Munstershas had a short-lived screen time, with the original show only airing between 1964 and 1966 and a sequel television show titledThe Munsters Todayairing from 1988 to 1991. Bryan Fuller attempted to reimagine the world in a TV series titledMockingbird Lane, but the show never aired past a pilot episode. Zombie’sMunstersproject would be the first film adaptation of the franchise and the first successful reimagination sinceThe Munsters Today.
The set photos confirm that Zombie has some level of dedication to keeping elements of the original series alive in his adaptation, although Zombie has fallen under criticism before in the horror world forhis recreations ofHalloweenandHouse of 1000 Corpses. With a steady stream of details and insight into the film coming from Zombie and crew members over the past few months, fans will hopefully have more concrete information to work with sooner than later.
