Disney announced the season 2 renewal on the dayThe Santa Clausespremiered its first season finale. “This franchise has had a lasting impact for so many families, truly becoming part of their annual holiday traditions," said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, in a statement. “Bringing it back as a series has been a true gift, and I’m grateful to our producing partners at 20th Television and, of course, Tim Allen and team, that we have yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season.”
The series has attained success in a relatively short amount of time. It was announced thatAllen would return forThe Santa Clausesin January of this year, and the first season finale only aired on December 14. Though the series has average reviews, it appears viewers are turning in for a dash of Christmas nostalgia.
The Santa Clausestrailerrevealed Scott was looking for a successor. He eventually finds one in the form of businessman Simon (Kal Penn), who begins to turn the North Pole into a corporation. Since this starts to drain belief in the Christmas Spirit, the magic of the North Pole starts to wane, and elves begin disappearing. It’s up to Scott and his family to set things right before the situation goes too far.
The originalSanta Clausefilm has becomeone of those Christmas moviesthat’s always on at Christmastime. Considering the film’s themes, it’s no surprise that the series continues to be a family affair. Allen’s real-life daughter, Allen-Dick, even portrays Scott’s daughter Sandra. The relationship between the new character Simon and his daughter Grace (Rupali Redd) also forms part of the series' emotional core.
