When Netflix first announced it would be adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s Polish fantasy seriesThe Witcherinto a TV show with Henry Cavill attached, it was immediately clear that theGame of Thronessized hole in the TV landscape wouldn’t be around for much longer. After only 10 days on the streaming service,The Witcherquickly became the second most popular show on Netflix in 2019.
Originally based on a series of novels and later adapted to video games, graphics novels, a movie, and now two separate TV shows, there’s a lot of content out there for fans that are looking for more in the lead up tothe second season of NetflixThe Witcher. For those that are eager for more stories following Geralt of Rivia, one fan has created an online calculator that not only outlines the most important books and games to play but exactly how long it will take to complete them in preparation for the next season.

Built using the websiteOmniCalculator,The Witchercalculator is a tool used to get caught up on either the books, video games or both, in preparation for Netflix’s upcomingThe Witcher: Season 2. Users can choose which medium they want to start with, what day they want to start on, how much time they can dedicate to the task on a daily bases, and even the finer details like their reading speed and whether the playthrough will be the main story only or a completionist run.
For example, we ran a test calculation for someone that would like to go back and experience both the books and the video game series and starting immediately. For books, we chose to readThe WitcherSaga which covers the five mainline books only (there are eight books in total), reading at a slow pace for roughly one hour per day. On the other hand, for video games, we selected a completionist run of all three games (there’s no option to only choose one game based on owned platforms), playing for roughly two hours per day and without playing throughThe Witcher 3’s fantastic expansions.
In total, it would take 282 days or 9.27 months tocomplete all ofThe Witchercontentby dedicating roughly 3 hours a day at a slow reading pace and a completionist run of the video games. The shortest entry is the first book in the series,Blood of Elves, has a total of 324 pages and would take 22 days at an hour a day, while the longest task easily comes down toThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntwhich racks up a total of 174 hours for completionists, or roughly 87 days at 2-hours a day.
Unfortunately, the one thingThe Witchercalculator is missing right now is the inclusion of the Netflix TV series and additional options to help streamline the process. It would be great to see the site expanded upon in future to include all related content from the TV series to the graphic novels and allow users to work in any order they’d like from chronological to release date, with additional options that allow for a streamlined “must read” approach for those that just want to get the most important details likehow many Witchers there are.
The Witcheris available to stream now on Netflix.
