Dragon Ball Z: Kakarothas been out for quite some time now, and given the slow rate at which it is releasing DLC, players are ready for something new. In terms ofDragon Ball Zgames, it isn’t very clear what will come next. At the moment, three series dominate the world ofDragon Ballgames, those beingXenoverse,FighterZ, and as of this year,Kakarot. It seems there are a number of potential options for the nextDBZgame, but the real question is which of these choices is most likely to happen, and which would fans like to see more.
The current era ofDragon Ball Zgames began in 2015 with the release ofDragon Ball Xenoverse. This was a title that took a very different approach to the standardDragon Ballgame formula, a change that fans appreciated at the time. TheXenoversesaga continued to expand in 2016 whenDragon Ball Xenoverse 2released, but has since subsisted off add-on content. Two years later,Dragon Ball FighterZcame out, taking fans back to the traditional 2D fighting style ofDBZgame but in a much more polished and stylistic way. Finally, 2020 markedDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s release, a truly story focused game.

Dragon Ball Z Game Sequels
The obvious place to start when guessing at what comes next forDragon Ball Zgames is a sequel. Of the three series currently running the show,Xenoverseis definitely next in line for a sequel.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis simply too new at this point and still hasn’t even ran the course of its season pass. The only way a sequel could be made would be to focus onDragon Ball Supercontent, and that’s already been added in the form of DLC. Likewise,Dragon Ball FighterZis still releasing new charactersand growing.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3on the other hand is long overdue, andXenoverse 2can only tide fans over for so long. There are a lot of improvements to the game that could be made in a sequel, and fan support for this would likely be overwhelming. Given that it has been four years since the release of aXenoversetitle, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the game on next gen consoles. Of course, the fact thatXenoverse 2will be released on PS5is slightly concerning, but doesn’t rule out a sequel in the future.

New Dragon Ball Z Games
Though a sequel to any of the aforementioned games would be welcomed by fans, the best thing for Bandai Namco to do would be to release a new game altogether.Dragon Ball FighterZrepresents one of the cleanest andmost polished combat system ofDBZgames, whileDragon Ball Z: Kakarotis by far the most in depth look at the show’s story. Finally,Xenoverse 2provides players with way more customization in terms of character appearance and moves. Combining all of these things into one could create an amazingDragon Ballgame.
It may also be best not to make aDragon Ball Zgame, but to make aDragon Ball Supergame instead. Despite theDragon Ball Superanime concluding in 2018, its content is still always retained for DLC purposes. Many fans desperately want astandaloneDragon Ball Supergame, and with the introduction of the multiverse there are nearly endless potential stories to tell. ADragon Ball Supergame could takeKakarot’s approach, telling Goku and Vegeta’s story precisely, or it could follow in the footsteps ofXenoverse, perhaps allowing the player to create a character as the member of the Galactic Patrol. At this point the possibilities truly seem endless.
