Team Ninja’s historical fantasy SoulslikeWo Long: Fallen Dynastyhas received a fairly meaty update that, among other things, makes the first boss less challenging.Wo Long: Fallen Dynastywas released worldwide on May 12, 2025, and has enjoyed a positive critical reception that cements Team Ninja’s status as one of the best developers of Soulslike games, second only toDark SoulsandElden Ringdeveloper FromSoftware. Team Ninja is perhaps best known as the developer ofDead or AliveandNinja Gaiden,but earned a reputation for its Soulslike after developingNiohand its sequel.Wo Long: Fallen Dynastypresents a unique spin on the Soulslike formula by basing itself onRomance of the Three Kingdoms,which is a centerpiece in the world of Chinese literature.Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyhas been praised for its battle system, but it would be a stretch to say that it is a perfect game despite its largely positive reception. The latest 1.05 patch seems to be geared at remedying a number of bugs both minor and major, while also adding a slew of new features.RELATED:Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Releases Update 1.03Many players have noted that thefirst boss fight inWo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Zhang Liang,presents a staggering difficulty spike. To remedy this Team Ninja has made a number of tweaks including lowering the maximum HP of his first form, adjusting some damage parameters, and adjustments to his AI. According to the patch notes, a tutorial for this challenging fight has also been added; an unusual feature in a Soulslike, to be sure.

Some of the other notable tweaks are around the way the game selects enemies when players lock-on, which has been adjusted to prioritize enemies that are closer to the player. Some new options have also been added to the game menu that will allow players to customize the way the camera and lock-on mechanics behave. There have also been some tweaks tothe Morale mechanic inWo Long: Fallen Dynastysuch as increasing the likelihood of rare item drops when defeating an enemy with a higher Morale Rank and adjustments to the amount of damage dealt by Divine Beasts dependent on the player’s Morale Rank.

Towards the end of the patch notes, there is a fairly long list of bug fixes with some of them specific to the Steam and Microsoft Store versions. The 1.05 update seems far more extensive than theWo Long: Fallen Dynasty1.04 update, and will hopefully go a long way towards improving the experience for players especially with some of the new settings and features it introduces.
